Before joining CFRL what was your biggest struggle? What were your biggest frustrations?
I had played sports throughout college and considered myself a good athlete in my earlier years but as life went on I began carrying too much body weight and struggled to maintain a healthy balance of exercise and diet. There was a period of time where I would get winded just by walking up a single flight of stairs and that was really disappointing. I knew I had to do something about it.
How did your struggle and frustrations affect your life? What did you feel like before joining CFRL?
Certainly affected my level of confidence and overall well being.
What was it about CFRL that made you join?
Actually, I didn't....my amazing wife, Wendy signed me up as a surprise for my 40th birthday. It is something we had talked about in passing but wasn't until she took the initiative to make it happen. I couldn't be more grateful, especially because this gift keeps on giving (soreness and gains!!)
What made you stay with us? What do you enjoy the most about CFRL?
Charly is one of the greatest coaches I have ever had the luxury of training with. In the early days, I was lucky to work one on one with him at 5:00 AM and that really gave me a chance to learn the movements properly and get hooked on CrossFit. In addition to the excellent coaching I have a great respect and gratitude for all the other members in this community. The level of camaraderie and support is bar none!!
How did our program help you? How is Life different for you now?
The program has helped me build up self confidence beyond just the strength and flexibility. I feel that if I can get through a really challenging WOD in the morning, then the rest of the day should be a breeze!!
Were there any specific goals that you reached that you are particularly proud of? How did it make you feel?
I try not to target specific numbers like body weight or deadlift max. It is more about how I feel physically and mentally, and while both have improved dramatically, I still have plenty more to gain!!
What would you tell someone interested in joining CFRL?
It's a no-brainer. Once your body gets used to the level of intense exercise, you will see and feel tremendous benefits. As Charly says...TRUST THE PROCESS!!
Is there anything personal you would like to add?
This has been an amazing experience and I look forward to training harder and getting stronger at the "Friendliest CrossFit Gym in Rockland County"!!
