Before joining CFRL what was your biggest struggle? What were your biggest frustrations?
Before joining crossfit, I did not have any exercise routine. I had a gym membership that I never used. I could not get myself to go because I felt like I was wasting my time since I didn't have any guidance or coaching.
How did your struggle and frustrations affect your life? What did you feel like before joining CFRL?
Without an exercise routine and with a 9-5 job in the city, I became overweight. It affected my health and mental state. I was tired and moody all the time which was compounded with the stressful work at the law firm.
What was it about CFRL that made you join?
My husband went to college with Charly and Dave. I was intimidated at first but sat in during my husband's first few crossfit classes. I saw how Charly coached and thought to myself, I can do this. That's what CFRL is about -- anybody can do it as it's tailored to your abilities.
What made you stay with us? What do you enjoy the most about CFRL?
I got pregnant with my first baby last year and continued with my crossfit training as soon as I healed and received the approval to exercise from my doctor. Throughout my pregnancy, I was still training under the careful coaching of Charly who made sure I'd be doing the movements I could do. My doctor was so pleased that I continued to do crossfit during my pregnancy and also after.
How did our program help you? How is Life different for you now?
Crossfit helped me cope with being a new mom. I lost all the baby weight and more. I am now 15 lbs lighter pre-baby! I received nutrition coaching with the 6 Week Challenge from our inhouse nutritionist Dani and guidance from Dave which I kept up with. Going to the gym helped me avoid postpartum depression which is real. I got to see my crossfit friends and it broke the monotony of a routine during my maternity leave. I really feel like it gives me the energy to keep up with my 9 month old baby girl.
Were there any specific goals that you reached that you are particularly proud of? How did it make you feel?
I am proud that I am healthier and fitter now than I was before getting pregnant. I joined my first crossfit competition in December with amazing women at the gym (Joelle, Andrea, and Ruth), and I enjoyed it immensely. It made me realize my own mental strength. Crossfit challenges me outside of work and family life.
What would you tell someone interested in joining CFRL?
Whatever preconceived notions you have about crossfit and gyms will be shattered as soon as you enter CFRL. The coaches have your best interest at heart and really look out for you. The other members you work out with are super supportive and will make you want to come back.
Is there anything personal you would like to add?
This gym is like a family to me and I want to be a good example to my daughter by prioritizing my health.
